Queen of Contusions

It took me a while to find this photo, taken at the height of my worst bruising. (Platelet count: 1,000) Let me explain.

Bruise on my forearm/wrist: From carelessly sliding my heavy work bag off my shoulder and catching it on my arm when I need to dig around and find something. Didn’t think this would make my arm look like it was slammed it in a car door.

Round bruise, closest to my knee: Unnecessary result of my lack of caution. Scraped the beejezus out of myself with the bottom of the stiletto heel I was wearing on the opposite foot as I got out of the car in haste at a gas station. (Make sense? I didn’t think so. I still don’t really know how it happened myself.) Weird how it bruised all around the actual scratch…

Other random bruises on my inner thigh: These were a mystery to me. (As were many of the other bruises I acquired while my platelets were at their lowest.) I have no idea how one gets bruises of that nature on the backs of both thighs…unless it could be from tucking one foot under the opposite leg while sleeping… (Who does that? Me. Sometimes. Quirk #45,768,376,439.)

These bruises, and all others, have since faded away. At present, I am only left with a little bit of one major bruise on the back of my arm after an Nplate injection at 1K. As my platelet count has increased, the rate at which the bruises fade has increased as well. It’s all hinging on these little cells my body has been telling itself to kill.

Hey, Body: Stop killing your platelets, idiot!

If only it were that easy. :)
