Hang on, platelets!

This week’s blood work is still on the up-and-up, thanks to the Nplate injections. Platelets at 154,000–which is around the bottom of the “normal” scale. (Yesssssss!) And, my doctor didn’t order an injection for me today for the first time in 5 weeks. This makes me a little nervous, considering I’ve heard that platelets tend to drop upon ceasing the injection. I figured he would want to do one more to boost the count a little more, just in case they do indeed drop drastically this week. I will still have blood work done on Monday, so we’ll see how these new platelets fare, sans Nplate. Best case scenario: Platelets will drop minimally, staying high for the most part, which could mean that my case of ITP was acute. (Crossing my fingers for that! Bigtime.)

And, as of today, I am officially steriod-free. Yesssss!

…and, unless I’m missing something, I think I managed to avoid the back neck fat. (Yeaaaaah!)

  1. Your mom is so proud of you and your blog. You have handled all of this so well and kept it in the proper perspective.

  2. Just thoughts….. The Nplate may not be causing all of the huge increase in platelets-the increase may occurring because the causal factor is being broken down and leaving your body. Maybe as the substance breaks down and leaves the body, the process of destroying your platelets has drastically decreased.

Your low-normal count puts you in a no danger zone of excess bleeding. By not giving you another Nplate injection this week, your doc might be able to better determine the cause; plus, you get the benefit of not having the ‘ole Nplate injection headache. It seems like a perfect strategy for a young, fabulous, now normal platelet count girl like you!

Pat yourself on the back of your non-fat neck.
